Description
CHATEAU PETRUS   VINTAGE  1981 TYPE BORDEAUX APPELATION  POMEROL     BOTTLE CONDITION  EXCELLENT LABEL CONDITION  SLIGHT LABEL TEAR BOTTLE LEVEL MID SHOULDER     WINE SPECTATOR 89 POINTS Big and very ripe, almost raisiny. Mouth-coating fruit with ripe tannins, but a little clumsy to be outstanding. ABOUT THE PRODUCER Pétrus is a made almost entirely of Merlot grapes grown in Bordeaux's right bank Pomerol appellation. Although never officially classified, the château has long been considered on par with the First Growths from the left bank. The ownership of the estate has passed between the Arnaud family in the 19th century, to Madame Loubat at the end of WWII, and finally to Jean-Pierre Moueix in recent years. Pétrus's clay soil is rich in iron with its average vine age of 40 years. The estate is known for being one of the first in Bordeaux to practice green-harvesting, a way to lower yields and improve quality. Château Pétrus produces approximately 3,000 cases of wine each year fetching $500 a bottle for futures and more than $1,000 a bottle for older vintages. The most legendary vintages for Pétrus include 1945, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1955, 1959, and 1961, in addition to recent success in 1982, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2003. Pétrus's flavor profile typically features aromas of ripe mulberry, black currant and spicy vanilla oak. The wine has incredible power, depth and richness which allow it to age for decades. All prices listed are either "per bottle" or "per case", as indicated and are exclusive of any freight or insurance charges. Some wines are available only in limited quantity, so please place your order as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. In all instances orders are processed in the order they are received. We accept orders on-line, or by mail, fax, e-mail, telephone and in person. If a bottle is sold in our retail store, that purchase will take first place over a eBay purchase. We will offer a full refund or upgrade the buyer.    Shipping Policy Back to Top The following policy governs all domestic U.S. shipments of wine from DownUnder Wines through common carriers.  Down Under Wine is dedicated to ensuring that the provenance and value of wine you order from and/or store with us is protected.  That's why we do the following: Provide you with up to 6 months of free storage in our temperature-controlled warehouse on all wine purchases. Adhere to a shipping policy designed to ensure your wine arrives in the same condition as when it left our warehouse. However, we understand that you may wish us to ship wine in a way that does not conform to our policies. For any shipment, you may request to override our policy at your own risk.  Weather conditions: Adverse weather conditions are those that may damage a wine in transit.   We define these as temperature readings or predicted temperatures of greater than 75 degrees or less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit.   Temperatures are considered at our warehouse on the shipping date and at the destination location on the estimated arrival date. Monday/Tuesday shipping: All orders will be shipped on Mondays or Tuesdays to ensure the minimum time in transit and maximum likelihood that delivery will be complete before the following weekend. 2 to 3 day air service: We recommend the use of 2 or 3 day air service for all shipments. During adverse weather conditions, we recommend Overnight delivery service. Weather checks: We will perform a weather check prior to shipping and will hold any shipment that is expected to experience adverse weather conditions.   We refer to this type of hold as a "weather hold." Initial weather hold notification: If your shipment is subject to a weather hold, you will be notified by email by close of business on your shipment date.   Upon an initial weather hold, you may ask us to waive the hold by returning the email or calling Customer Service. If you do not respond, we will automatically attempt to ship the following week. Tracking numbers: Once your shipment has been sent, you will receive an automatic email from the carrier containing the tracking number and information for your shipment. We strongly recommends the following additional guidelines for shipping your wine. Next day service: This ensures the minimum amount of transit time. Business address: We recommend that all shipments are sent to a business address or an address that is equipped to receive shipments during standard business hours. This ensures your shipment won't remain in vans or warehouse facilities overnight without temperature controls. Ensure the presence of a receiver of legal age: All packages require a signature from someone who is 21 or older. We only ship to addresses where the customer notifies us that someone of legal age will be present during normal business hours. Carriers will not deliver packages to under age persons and a failed delivery attempt will cause a delay in receipt and may introduce weather-related risk of damage. Contact the carrier: If your ability to receive the package on the first delivery day changes, contact the carrier as soon as possible to make alternate arrangements.   Terms And Conditions Back to Top We stand behind every item we sell. We give our customers 7-day inspection period upon receipt of merchandise. 100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEED. Shipping costs are non-refundable. Every attempt has been made to describe all property as accurately as possible. However DownUnder Wines does not warrant or represent, and denies responsibility for the accuracy of the descriptions, encompassing but not limited to vintage, provenance, authenticity, quality and condition as may be stated on the site. When a lot description of a bottle includes a photo, the photo may not necessarily show the actual bottle offered in the lot. If the bottle is described as “in excellent general condition,” the photo may be a DownUnder Wines stock photo of a bottle of the specified wine and vintage, though not the exact bottle offered. Stock photos may be used for bottles that are in “excellent general condition” but have lightly depressed corks, lightly elevated corks, lightly scuffed capsules, lightly depressed capsules, lightly wrinkled capsules, lightly worn capsules, lightly scuffed labels, lightly nicked labels and lightly worn labels. Buyer accepts all purchases "as is." Since the sale of the wine between DownUnder Wines and buyer takes place at DownUnder Wines facility the buyer becomes the owner of the wine prior to its shipment. DownUnder Wines has arranged the shipment on behalf of buyer using DownUnder Wines regular shipping account.  Insurance does not cover any loss or damage due to exposure to temperature variations, shipping delays, or defect in or failure of any cork or other bottle closure. The buyer is solely responsible for shipment of wines. By participating in these auctions buyers authorize DownUnder Wines to act on their behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver wine to the location the buyer specifies. Wines may be sold and delivered only to persons who are at least 21 years old. By placing bids in these auctions, buyers acknowledge that they are at least 21 years old, and that the person to whom buyer's wine will be delivered is also at least 21 years old. The person receiving delivery will be required to show identification proving that he or she is at least 21 years old. Note: Though every effort is made to describe or measure the levels of older vintages, corks more than 20 years old begin to lose their elasticity and levels can change between cataloguing and sale. Old corks occasionally fail during or after shipment. Buyers must understand that there is always a risk of cork failure with old wines. Under no circumstances can an adjustment of price or credit be made after delivery.   eBay Wine Policy  Back to Top DownUnder Wines is participating in a closed category of wine sales on eBay. As a participant in this category. DownUnder Wines had to be pre-approved by eBay prior to listing wine on the web site.
