It is a full collection of dining room, bedroom, occasional, and living room furniture. The pieces are scaled to todays lifestyle. Edward VII was the King of England from 1901 to 1910. While some Edwardian households embraced the latest Art Nouveau forms, many returned to the furniture styles of the past and the latest classical revivals. The Art Nouveau movement was born in the dawn of a new century, the 20th century, and the desire to make something new. The more linear designs used geometric shapes. A good example is the linear design of the sleigh bed which is void of carvings. The return to the classical designs of Sheraton and Hepplewhite can be seen in the abundant use of mahogany in Edwardian furniture. Imported from the British colonies in the West Indies and Honduras, mahogany had become the favored wood for the fine cabinet making in Britain by the early 1730.
