This handmade Persian Tabriz rug is a truly one-of-a-kind and it was made over a period of one year. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to design a rug and after I started my own business, I had to turn it into reality. I asked one of our family's favorite weavers if it could be done and he decided to work on it in his spare time. From start to finish, it took about a year to complete and the result is just amazing. At the beginning, I wanted to create a design that is recognized by everybody and it had to have special meaning. After some time, I felt that the most recognized picture would be the world itself and so I look at how it would work in a rug. Originally, the oceans were supposed to be dark blue, but we felt that light colors would work much better and more appropriate. The light colors were chosen to give the rug a warm and welcomed look and so that it represents a blending of the different people rather than division. Another challenge was the border of the Tabriz itself. Going with a traditional pattern was out of the question and just having the flags looked just as bad on paper. Someone came up with the idea of adding some life to the piece and next thing we know we had leaves in the colors of the flags hanging of branches. Then we decided to take it another step and added roses to the design of the whole rug, since they represent peace. Finally, the quality was going to be very high since it was going to be a masterpiece. A simple cotton foundation just was not going to work so we decided to go with silk and to make it not just beautiful, but also very fine. Most likely it would end up on a wall, and it had to be made accordingly. The most difficult part of the rug were the tremendous details like the country borders, names, and flags. It was extremely important that everything looked right from the beginning and there were no room for errors. My original intention was to keep it for myself, but to be honest, seeing it completed is satisfaction enough and now that I know that it can be done, I plan to design some other rugs as well. I have seen many rugs with the typical Persian artwork, and I think it's time that we see some with our own statues and monuments. These rugs take a very long time to make and are extremely expensive since they have to be very accurate, but I think that anybody would appreciate rugs like this one. Rare pieces like this one are extremely valuable and are typically offered to a very select few collectors at special events. By hosting rugs like this one here on Ebay, I can share my passion with many of you who otherwise would not have the chance to see such pieces. There is no reserve on this auction and most of my Tabriz rugs sell in a very short time due to their high quality and uniqueness. Buyer pays $50.00 for UPS ground shipping and insurance and California residents will need to add the state sales tax.
